Troop Position Descriptions

- Runs all troop meetings and activities.
- Runs the Patrol Leaders meetings.
- Assigns duties and responsibilities to Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and others.
- Assists the SM with troop operations.
- Coordinates troop and scout activities with SM and other adults.
- Helps the Senior Patrol Leader run all troop meetings and activities.
- Runs the meetings and activities in the absence of the Senior Patrol Leader.
- Helps supervise the Troop Scribe, Quartermaster, Librarian, Historian, Chaplin Aide and others.
- Attend and conduct patrol leader meetings to plan for troop activities.
- Help scouts advance. Help scouts keep their advancement records and merit badge records up to date.
- Ensures patrol completes duties/activities at meetings and outings.
- Keeps patrol orderly at meetings and outings.
- Coordinates patrol and scout activities with SM and other adults.
- Prepare and conduct a different “Scout’s Own Program” for each campout. If not attending the event, assign to another scout or adult leader.
- Prepare and give a benediction at every court of honor or eagle ceremony.
- Each morning at summer camp, lead troop in a prayer for the day. If not attending, prepare text for each day and give to the SPL.
- Make a presentation during term about the different religious awards and how they can be earned. Make that available as handouts.
- Promote Scout Sunday in February.
- Take out flags before troop meeting and put back after meeting.
- Within 2 weeks of term, inventory troop equipment and submit a report to the SM.
- Include in the report broken and missing equipment.
- Before each campout or event when troop equipment is to be used, check with the activity leaders to see what equipment they will need.
- Before the event, make sure all necessary equipment is present.
- After the event, check all equipment and report broken and missing equipment to the SM.
- Attends at least 50% of the den’s meetings.
- Reports monthly to SM about participation with den.
- Escorts their den to special events as needed.
- Participates in den’s Arrow of Light Ceremony
- Provides materials for display, photos, and articles for the web site and presentations for current activities as needed.
- Assists in updating annual troop rosters and maintains in troop notebook with scribe.
- Maintains a list of awards, trophies, or ribbons earned by the troop.
- Documents troop outdoor activities including who, what, where, and when
- Make the library available at troop meetings at least once per month.
- Within 2 weeks of the start of the term, inventory books and give SM list of outdated ones and get outstanding books back.
- Periodically review list of checked out books and get back the overdue ones.
- At least once during the term make a short overview of the requirements for a merit badge.
- Keep the minutes of the troop meetings including attendance, decisions made, and assignments given as appropriate.
- Maintain troop calendar with adult leaders.
- Bring Troop notebook to each meeting.
